JOHN NICOLE MUSIC "All along the watchtower / While my guitar gently weeps" | Ankom: 2012-02-04 Label: www.JohnNicoleMusic.com
 |
Born in Fort Lauderdale, Fl, in 1949, John Nicole spent much of his early youth playing at the beaches in southern Florida, enjoying fresh air and sunshine, fishing, driving fast, acting in local and regional theater, working in films, such as “The Eight Daffodil,” produced by Burt Reynolds. John attended Palm Beach College years while acting for a number of regional theaters and playing in a rock during weeknights. John formed a band and played drums for “The Electric Harpoons, “the opening band for Florida’s first official Love In.”
While he started his professional career in music by playing drums, much earlier in his life he studied guitar (on an “Elvis” guitar), and began improvising tunes on his grandmother’s grand piano.
During college became friends with Burt Reynolds who had once gone to the same school as John. Reynolds offered to help finance John’s continued training in art of acting.
John moved to New York City to study at the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts. For a brief time, John was managed by the William Morris Agency performed in a few off-Broadway musicals and plays. During his time in New York, he began a series of informal and experimental recording sessions which led to a collection of early work titled, “What Truth Is There To Being?” which is now being considered by John as a future release.
John’s unique style and eclectic array of genres, sounds, spaces and tone, have led to the success of his most recent CD entitled “Breathing You.”

LOUISE HOFFSTEN "Looking for Mr. God" | Ankom: 2012-01-26 Label: Warner Music www.hoffsten.com
 |
Och liten revansch när Faith Hill spelade in ”Bring Out the Elvis”.
Rock. Back to basic.
Men ingen frid gavs.
Inte för att the show must go on.
Lyssna noga. Det här är Louise Hoffsten.

DANA FUCKS "Drive / Nothing´s what I cry for" | Ankom: 2012-01-22 Label: RUF Records
 |
Dana Fuchs is a phenomenon, a singer whose mesmerizing voice and presence has led critics to compare her to Rock Legends from Janis to Jagger. Dana’s portrayal of “Sadie” in the highly acclaimed film Across the Universe has exposed her considerable talents to a wider, international audience.
Dana and her band spent time in 2010 successfully harnessing the energy & power of her live show in the studio for their new album, Love To Beg (Ruf Records), just released this April. “I’m really excited about the new material and the energy we captured in the studio,” says Dana. “Jon and I wrote most of the tunes while touring for pretty much the past year and we feel this new album really captures all of our influences in a sincere and powerful way.”
Since then, Dana has been touring the globe non-stop bringing her high energy “Rock & Roll Church of Love” to audiences far and wide. Love To Beg is a combination of Rock, Soul, Gospel and Blues that captures the visceral energy she brings to the stage every night. “Honestly, we recorded this collection of songs for ourselves and our fans,” says Dana. “We weren’t thinking about having a 3-minute song with ‘hooks’ or worrying about the often dark nature of the lyrics. We just trusted our own musical instincts and let it rip. I can’t wait for the world to hear the new CD and I can’t wait to bring it to life onstage.”
But Dana has been honing her craft and creating vibrant music from an early age.
The youngest of six musical children, Dana was raised in a small town in rural Florida surrounded by music – her older siblings’ band playing classic rock in the garage, Ray Charles and Hank Williams on her parents’ turntable and a big dose of 70’s and 80’s funk at school. At age 12, she joined the First Baptist Gospel Choir and was singing, shouting and praising the lord every week in a small black church on the outskirts of town. “The best advice I ever got was from a matronly African American woman who told me to just let ‘Mama Music’ take over. I felt inspired, liberated and scared!”
At 16, she was fronting a popular local band at a roadside Holiday Inn. It was the beginning of a hunger for singing and the stage that Wildwood, Florida couldn’t possibly satiate. Soon she was headed north, telling friends and family she was “going to New York to sing the blues”.
Arriving in NYC alone and broke at the age of 19, Dana soon found herself down-and-out on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. After the wake-up call of her older sister’s suicide (Donna was Dana’s first musical mentor), Dana pulled herself together and was determined to reconnect with her passion for music. She began hitting the local blues jams with a vengeance and it was at one of these sessions that she met Jon Diamond, an established NYC guitarist who toured with Joan Osborne and Debbie Davies.
Immediately recognizing a musical chemistry, they formed the Dana Fuchs Band. Within a year, the band was a feature act in New York City’s best clubs, often sharing the stage and performing with the likes of John Popper, James Cotton, and Taj Mahal. For another year Dana immersed herself in the blues, playing three long sets a night, four nights a week – until sunrise – honing her formidable vocal power and performance style, all the while building a large, loyal following.
After a couple of years working the blues circuit, Dana knew it was time for a change and decided to tell her own story and create her own music. She and Jon began writing intensively and putting together a solid body of original rock songs. “I didn’t grow up on Tobacco Road, so my personal ‘blues’ had a different story and I needed to tell it. I also needed to explore and express my rock and roll side more.”
Soon Dana was back on the Lower East Side again, only this time on stage with the band, debuting her songs to a packed house at Arlene’s Grocery. The fan response was overwhelming. The band was soon selling out shows at The Mercury Lounge, The Stephen Talkhouse and BB King’s, sharing the bill with luminaries including Little Feat, Marianne Faithfull, and Etta James to name just a few.
Shortly thereafter, the producers of the off-Broadway hit “Love, Janis,” hearing raves about Dana from various cast and crew-members, asked her to come in for an audition. Dana went in, sang a few bars of “Piece of My Heart,” and was offered the role of Janis Joplin on the spot. “I had 8 days to learn 20 Joplin tunes and 52 pages of dialogue. One of the most exciting challenges of my life!” Playing Janis four nights a week garnered Dana a whole new audience who were soon regulars at her band’s shows listening to Dana performing her own music.
The Dana Fuchs Band has released several acclaimed albums, from their studio debut Lonely for a Lifetime to their 2008 internationally distributed Live in NYC CD and DVD. According to Dana, “Live performance is the way I get to truly spill my soul and connect with an audience. I love being in the studio but in live performance every second is a new creation.”

MANHATTAN ROB "Bad Passenger" | Ankom: 2012-01-21 Label: Rob´s Downstairs Records manhattanrob.com
 |
Rob Walsh started out playing his music as a solo coffeehouse performer and street musician in 70's New York City. It was there he was given the name "Manhattan Rob" by his street-level associates in the Washington Square set.
With the close of the 70's, Walsh became an active side-man on bass, saxophone and guitar during the post-punk era in Max's Kansas City, CBGB and other NYC venues.
After an extended foray into the London Pub scene, Rob returned to the 1980's New York club scene. Rob fronted the enigmatic Hi-Fi TIE, which enjoyed the attention of large audiences in the large rooms as well as smaller venues. Hi-Fi TIE released one EP titled "The Boys Can't Help It" on Right On Red Records in 1984.
During the pursuit of other career horizons, Rob spent 10 years traveling in the heartland and cities of America.
When it came time to sing again in 2010, Walsh resurrected his moniker from nearly 30 years past. He made the rounds at the open mics, in the biker bar circuit, in the hills of Northern New Jersey. While doing solo acoustic gigs and as leader of Manhattan Rob & The Vagabonds, he drew on his life-long feel for the blues and the folk-like roots in him that were reawkened by his years of travel.
Walsh's books of self-penned compositions grew considerably in 2010 and 2011. Since the past decade of traveling, making contact with so many people, in so many places, he had plenty of material to build with. Walsh's writing comes from the heart, and he tries to write from his listener's heart. His themes tend to be populist with the added ingredient of personal depths that many are able to share.
Manhattan Rob's treatment of traditional blues is unique, as he sometimes completely re-engineers a song to get his rhythmic point across, and his audiences groovin'. When Rob sets his hands to covers, he usually draws from the pop and soul standards from the 60's, as well as his favorite traditional blues numbers.
With his unique application of interpretations and compositions, when Manhattan Rob performs a song, you know its coming from Manhattan Rob.
In 2012 Walsh released his debut CD "Bad Passenger".

LOU SIFFER AND THE HOWLING DEMONS "The Devil´s Ride" | Ankom: 2012-01-16 Label: www.lousiffer.com
 |
"Forget that this music comes from Sweden, this is a Detroit-fueled, mega-tons of muscle car, head-on collision to the face of brutal punk-infested garage stomp. Exhaust blows out of the bands nostrils like some devil-spawned hot rod revving at the green line. Hide your daughters, your girlfriends, your neighbors . . . crap, hide your whole town. When Lou Siffer and the Howling Demons come to town nothing but carnage and skid marks will remain. And beautiful carnage at that."
- The ripple effect
"The Devil's Ride" jump-start with the first single "The Mosher" and from there it just accelerates. The first song that really stuck with me is track four "Legend". Now that's more like it! A steel guitar that directly evokes the DANZIG amazing "777". More punk rock feeling we get in "Gasser -55" and subsequent "Killing Is Fun" which sounds very very old MISFITS (forgive yet another comparison but it is a comparison made with love). "Under Attack" is a pure rockabilly and hell, I like it! Despite numerous comparisons, which some would call rip-offs, I like the band's concept. "The Devil's Ride" is a magnificent album that just grows. Thanks guys, well done!"

KARLING ABBEYGATE "Dig Baby Dig / Miss Fortune" | Ankom: 2011-12-13 Label: WT Records karlingmusic.com

No one can dispute that Karling Abbeygate inspires the audience to have a grand old time. She is traditional yet VERY different. She gets the tongues wagging with her twirling, her alt-rockabilly dresses and her unpredictable often-hysterical stage banter. But yet… despite all the showmanship, her voice is magical. No one denies this. She is like a nightingale reaching into your soul and touching on the tender points but she’s also like a thunderstorm rocking the room and growling out sheer power and fire, slamming that bastard ex-boyfriend into the dirt!
If you want something that is not safe, is not predictable, yet is well within Rockabilly tradition, then you are looking for this creative award-winning creature Karling Abbeygate.
And it’s not like she doesn’t have peer reviews! Whether she’s song writing with Big Sandy, doing backgrounds with Kim Lenz, performing duets with James Intveld, or recording at 4 Star Studios (Patsy Cline’s early label) Karling is always up to something. She just completed a very successful tour of Europe. The fans were left chanting “We want more, we want more, we want more!” The Russian backing band were left wondering if they can get visas so they can play permanently with her. And R.J. the Dutch Rockabilly singer also featured on the tour, is currently perfecting his Karling Abbeygate Twirl as we speak.
The first album released on hip label Dionysus Records is very traditional honky tonk country--just like Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette or June Carter--lots of heart wrenching ballads that surely show Karling’s unique and pitch perfect emotional impact. This debut effort earned her three Los Angeles Music Awards:
Rockabilly Artist Of the Year,
Rockabilly Album Of The Year,
Americana Vocalist Of The Year.
Yet her new CD that’s out this coming Spring is a complete departure. Think Lulu meets Wanda Jackson, who then has a conference call with David Bowie who’s lunching with The Polecats--they exchange notes and then--write a 14 song album! Let’s just say the pre-release has already won a coveted Hollywood Music In Media Award! This girl can do no wrong. It’s only been a short time since she catapulted onto the rockabilly scene. Her first show was opening for Wayne Hancock. Her all star band featuring Thomas Yearsley (The Paladins) on bass, (who by the way said it was the first time in years that he’d felt truly inspired enough to pull his bass out of its bag)--Joey Altruda on guitar (producer of Big Sandy, James Imtveld, Bozz, Glen Glen, and more) and Daniel Glass (Royal Crown Review) on drums. And NO, she doesn’t have a big money backer. These guys play with her because she’s THAT GOOD!
Karling will be touring Europe again in 2010 to promote the new album which is already controversial with its suggestive bondage-like cover art. But just listen to the songs! And then you’ll see what all the fuss is about. Amelda May proved that true talent will prevail, and Karling Abbeygate is next in-line. Grab a date now while it’s still affordable!

Kim Simmonds began his solo acoustic career in 1997 with the release of the CD, “Solitaire”. An album of traditional blues, “Solitaire” was the starting point of Kim’s rediscovery of his love of the acoustic guitar. In the truest sense of the word, “Solitaire” was a true solo album and an encouraging beginning for Kim and a fine addition to the acoustic music world.
Expanding upon the traditional foundation of “Solitaire”, “Blues Like Midnight” was one of 2001’s pleasant surprises as Kim’s songwriting depth and vocals shined right along with his always stellar guitar playing. A favorite of both fans and critics, “Blues Like Midnight” provided Kim with a firm foothold on the acoustic live music circuit including his first solo tour of the U.K.
With his third release in 2004, "Struck By Lightning", Simmonds pulled out all the stops with an album again full of superb guitar playing but this time fully augmented with a powerful acoustic rhythm section. The CD was well received and as one reviewer stated, "Kim's other solo albums were good, but this is probably his best".
Kim's newest release, "Out Of The Blue", is a collection of varied material that places him in a new setting, that of the singer/songwriter. This time around the guitar playing is understated with more emphasis on the song. His baritone voice has aged well, matured perhaps and now stands out throughout the CD's eleven songs. A "bare bones" recording with just the occasional background vocal, percussion and string section, "Out Of The Blue" displays Simmonds' wider musical range that will act as a perfect introduction for first time listeners.

My parents had a cupboard at the house where they kept the records. It wasn’t a big stack but it was all great singers: Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, and a bunch of Elvis.
My brothers and I would listen to these records over and over. I remember starting off to school every day and the last song I heard would be a Jerry Lee Lewis tune. The record player was one of those old fashioned ones that looked like a suitcase and folded out. It had two little speakers, one on each side, about the size of a box of Kleenex. We thought it sounded fantastic, and scratchy sound or not, the records moved you.
The years went by. They always do. But those songs that I grew up listening to stuck with me. My parents, always the bohemians, would have parties at the house. These were usually just a bunch of people and somebody brought some wine and somebody had some food and everybody got loud and laughed a lot...but in the middle of the party my brothers and I would be singing and playing guitar and we always played a bunch of the songs that we grew up listening to.
More years went by. I was in Japan going to college and boxing. I was missing home like crazy, and one day walking down the street in Kyoto I saw a store selling records and guitars. I walked in and saw an album called Elvis Sun Sessions. It had a painting of Elvis on the cover (the painting made Elvis look like he might even be half Japanese) and I looked at the list of songs on the record and I recognized a couple from my folks’ records. I bought the record and to say it changed the direction of my life would be precise. I still have that record. I think I just about wore it out playing it. It was the first time that I realized that all those Elvis songs I had been listening to had come out of Sun Studio. Years before when I had been shopping in the secondhand store (we bought EVERYTHING secondhand) I had found an old 45 of Elvis on Sun Records. It was like finding a part of a puzzle…I LOVED the music. I listened to “I’ll Never Let You Go” until the record skipped and then I stacked pennies on the record arm and kept playing it. But as much as it was instant connection to the music, I really didn’t know much about Sun Studio or all the great music that came out of there. Standing in Japan with that record in my hands brought me a lot closer. I loved the sound of the records. They were simple, straight ahead...I felt like I was in the room listening to the singers. It changed everything for me. At the time I bought the record I was fighting as a light heavyweight and had a flat top or “sports cut” as part of the boxing team. I immediately struck a bargain with my coach to let me keep my hair long as long as I was boxing well. I started wearing my hair greased up, my clothes started being a lot wilder. I sang so much that my Japanese landlady learned the words to “I Forgot to Remember to Forget” by osmosis!
When I got back to the States I was playing guitar all the time at home and listening to Elvis, Jerry Lee, Orbison, Perkins, Johnny Cash...all the singers I grew up with.
They were as exciting as ever and I was getting better at picking out the songs. Little by little I found myself thinking less about getting a “real” job when I got out of college and more and more thinking about where I could find a great band. I was hooked on music. I didn’t really have any big ideas of fame or fortune but I was just dying to have an electric guitar, a flashy suit, and a real microphone stand instead of the broom stick taped to the back of a chair that I was using at home. It took a lot of looking, but I got the guitar, the microphone stand, and finally the great band I had always been looking for. We played every honkytonk and bar, and little by little made a name for ourselves. We got the flashy stage suits (at first we all had secondhand blue gabardine...it was the only color we could all find at the junkstore!). I was writing a lot of songs, and we were recording and putting out records and the action never stopped…touring, filming, TV…and if you saw us on the records you might not have known that we were still playing those Sun Sessions tunes. We would sneak one or two into our live shows. For years we closed our live show with a version of an old Jerry Lee Lewis tune that was my Dad’s favorite and mine too, “Bonnie B.”
Show business is a small tent and a small circus. I kept bumping into the singers I had grown up idolizing. I worked with Roy Orbison and was thrilled to find he was everything I had imagined and more. He was a great singer and a really kind, funny, down to earth guy. I worked with Johnny Cash and was so excited that
I brought along an early picture of Johnny, Sun Studios era, for him to sign. I asked if he would sign it for me and he was gracious, but then when I handed him the photo he just stopped still and looked at it for a long, quiet time. I wasn’t sure if I had upset him or done something wrong, but I was wishing I could crawl away when he turned to me and smiled and said “I was a GOOD looking man.” I have two pictures hanging in my house. One is my mom, the other is that picture of Johnny Cash. I was in a crowd of record executives and trying to sneak out of some kind of radio conference when I looked and saw a guy who looked as uncomfortable as me. It was Carl Perkins. I just thought it was surreal that he could be standing there...I guess I expected him to have a guitar on at all times or something. I remember asking him about one of my favorites of his, a crazy song with wild bending guitars and words I could barely make out. I had listened to it a million times and couldn’t figure out the words…“Carl, what is that song about?” I asked him. I still remember his answer. “That song’s about a quart too many. I was drunk, it was late in the studio, and I was just letting it rip!”
I was asked to play with Jerry Lee Lewis, and have to say it was one of the most fun and the scariest things I ever did. I had seen Jerry play live before, and I knew just about all of his music by heart. We didn’t rehearse, not at all, and I just hoped he was going to like my singing. People kept telling me things before I went out on stage like “you know he shot his bass player once.” I didn’t think getting shot was a possibility, but when you respect and idolize somebody as much as I do Jerry Lee, then you want to please them. I was really happy when it came my turn to sing and no shots rang out.
These singers and their music just seem to always be a part of my life, always there somehow…a chance meeting, a record I find in a store in Japan, or a junkstore in my hometown. I guess I just love the music and keep looking for it and finding it in strange ways and places. When I was filming my television show I was really tired and I remember getting a copy of Oxford American Magazine. It’s a magazine that actually writes readable articles about cool music. I was saving the magazine to read on a break as a treat because I knew it had an article about Sam Phillips, the guy who pretty much got rock and roll going. I know there are lots of others who helped, but I really don’t think without Sam we would have rock and roll. I can’t explain all he did...it’s too much for the notes from a singer on the back of a record. You need to listen to his records, read a couple of books. I have and I still feel like I don’t know much, but I do strongly believe he is a bonafide genius, one of those guys who looks and sees how things are going to be, only he is fifty or a hundred years ahead of his time. He found Elvis. He found Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Orbison, and Jerry Lee. He recorded Howlin’ Wolf and BB King! (I saw BB King play at the state fair in my hometown. “King” is an appropriate name).
If somebody had found ONE of those artists they would have a claim to fame. Two would put you on a short list for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. But to have built the studio in the middle of Memphis way back when, to set up your recorder, and to have found ALL those singers…and got all those amazing performances. He was really way out there on his own. I think just about anybody else would have turned away a young, sweaty, mumbling Elvis. Or they would have tried to turn him into a second rate Dean Martin. But Sam Phillips put Elvis, Bill Black (bass), and Scotty Moore (guitar) together (God bless Scotty Moore. If you like rock music you better believe HE deserves a bow). So I finally took a break from filming and took out the article about Sam Phillips...he is always fun to read. He tells it like he sees it and it is fun to hear that honesty in print just like it is to hear it on his records. But at the end of the article the interviewer asked Sam what new artists he listened to. When he said my name I just about fell out of my chair. It just felt like all that music that I had grown up listening to, his music, Sun Sessions, those great artists...it had all come full circle. I think it meant more to me than any gold record or award I ever received, because Sam Phillips was really the thread that connected all that music that I had been loving all of my life.
I have always wanted to make this record. When I first came to town I made a list of songs that I knew (I didn’t know anything about how the music business worked. I thought maybe someone would let me sing with their band...I must have seen that in a movie.) The songs were just about all Sun Sessions tunes from the recording studio out in Memphis, Tennessee. Well, after making a lot of records of my own, I finally got to make this album of all the tunes I have been singing and playing at practices and soundchecks and in my house all these years. I took the band to Memphis to record at Sun Studio, it’s still a recording studio and it is an AMAZING room! We recorded in the late afternoon and stayed up till way too late and we had a ball! We played, not worked. We had rehearsed the songs. We knew most of the tunes we were going to record. Then we added a few. And I wrote a few. I remember scribbling the second and third verses on pieces of paper on the floor between takes. Maybe that room and all the great music that has been made there made everybody bring their best...It was just flat out FUN to sing and record there. We really went for the style of recording that was used on those records early on. We were all playing in the room together, nobody had any headphones, we just listened to each other and went for it. Of course I told the guys, “if I’m singing good you better play good ‘cause that’s gonna be the take we use!” We cut way more music than we intended...we just couldn’t and didn’t want to stop. It’s the most fun I ever had making a record. And I always have fun singing!
We hope you like this record as much as we do. I have tried to mix in the heartbreakers with the rockers and even a few that I wrote myself. We called the record Beyond the Sun, because the music starts at Sun Studio and just keeps growing and going. I think Mr. Phillips would have liked that. He probably foresaw it…

TAJ MAHAL "Dust me down (feat Ben Harper) / Further on down the road (feat Jack Johnson)" | Ankom: 2011-11-08 Label: www.tajblues.com

Särskilt kan nämnas debuten ”Taj Mahal” (1967), ”The Natch´l Blues” (1968), Grammy-vinnande ”Senor Blues” (1997), ”Shoutin in the Key” (2000) och nu senast ”Maestro”,
40-års jubileumsskivan från 2008.

Jim grew up in a one-room house on a dirt farm in the Deep South. After living the life of a starving musician, he left to earn Masters/Doctorate degrees from Stanford University and Georgia Institute of Technology. He went on to become a world recognized leader in Computer Science and software. Today he codes for fun and he plays guitar for love. Jim’s contemporary blues-rock style has a uniquely modern feel with contemporary lyrics and explosive guitar lines, but it respectfully bows to the core soul that has been embodied in the blues throughout the ages. It is Jim’s dream to help foster the blues to a larger audience. His newest album, Overclocked, is an ambitious, perfectly crafted 13-song set of original blistering blues, sophisticated jazz, heavy rock and tender pop ballads spotlighting his virtuoso guitar chops, creative lyrics and mellifluous vocals.

Don White and Steve White are a father-son team that have enjoyed success in their respective solo careers, and have worked together from time to time over the years. Now they have joined forces to create their exciting new masterpiece, DADDY BO . This album features the duo's unique talents as songwriters, vocalists, musicians, and producers. The new album, recorded at David Teegarden's Natura Digital Studios, brings together some of the finest musicians on the scene today to create a truly memorable experience.
Don and Steve's first actual gig together was in Steve's third grade talent show in Tulsa. Don had taught Steve to play the guitar and the duo tore the house down! Don's career path led him to live in Nashville during the 1970s, but he returned to Tulsa for a few years, and Steve started playing with his dad's band in the mid 1980s. The music business once again beckoned Don to Nashville, but in the mid 1990s, Don returned to Tulsa and the father and son joined forces in the band Okie Soul, which also featured international singing star Gus Hardin. They first got together in the studio to work on Don's 1999 release Okie Fiesta," sharing all of the guitar and vocal work. Together, Don and Steve have shared the stage in concert with many greats, including: Dwight Yoakam, Delbert McClinton, Buddy Guy, Asleep At The Wheel, Merle Haggard, Pam Tillis, Ray Charles, and others.

ROKY MOON AND BOLT "American Honey" | Ankom: 2011-08-21 Label: ZenHill Records rokymoonandbolt.com album |
How much is too much? Glam-rock heroes Roky Moon & BOLT! haven't found out yet.
Saturday at Fitzgerald's, the band debuts their second full-length album, American Honey, which was recorded over four takes in one day at SugarHill Studios earlier this year. The album is markedly different from BOLT!'s previous recordings, including last year's self-titled LP, but Honey finds the band coming ever closer to completely perfecting their now-signature sound.
The road to getting Honey made was paved by the band's live show. The throwback sound and over-the-top delivery — despite the creamy melodies, BOLT! pushes themselves as hard as any punk or metal group — almost militantly wowed SugarHill co-owner Dan Workman.
"The first time I saw Roky Moon and BOLT! perform, it was love at first sight — I knew that I had to record this band. Hell, I wanted to be in the band!" says Workman, obviously beaming even through e-mail. "I just got it: Bowie, T. Rex, Meat Loaf. Here were the new glam-rock kids of the 2010s and the star of the band dressed like a slacker!"
Zenfilm creative director W. Ross Wells, who partnered with Workman to form ZenHill Records last year, says BOLT!'s noise made him feel decades younger. The group was one of the first acts the brand-new local label signed.
"Hearing them for the first time was incredibly satisfying musical comfort food that took me back to my '70s pomp/glam roots," Wells says. "As I listened, I realized they were much more than that. Rather than just paying tribute to their heroes, they were interpreting the genre for a whole new generation."
Simply put, no one in Houston sounds like Roky Moon & BOLT!, and all their influences are godheads and legends. There's Meat Loaf in "Hot Saturday Night," David Bowie in "Monster" and Andrew Lloyd Webber on "The Lioness." They even managed to snag permission to use Bowie's "Watch That Man" on Honey.
As much as the band's lyrical content seems to come from a mythical stratosphere inside lead singer Moon's wooly brain, there are undeniable allusions to a Houston music and drinking scene that holds as much drama as any nightly CW soap opera.
"The fourth track on the album ('Unhinge the Youth') speaks openly about getting high with people we have met," says Moon, the Ziggy Stardust-like alter ego of longtime local musician Mike Hardin. "Every story worth telling in life should deal with some sort of loss. I tend to have a lot of that in my writing."

STEADY LOVE is a wonderful collection of Funky, Bluesy/Gospel-y tunes, all with really uplifting, positive messages. I will be touring the entire country with my Red Hot Bluesiana Band to promote it's release, finishing up in New Orleans, where this all began! Meanwhile, we are almost finished working on my Memphis Minnie Tribute Album, which will include soulful guest performances by Bonnie Raitt, Ruthie Foster, Rory Block, Phoebe Snow, Del Rey, Suzy Thompson & others.
That one will probably be out at the very end of 2011, or the beginning of 2012.

BILLY BURNETTE "Rock n Roll With It" | Ankom: 2011-08-21 Label: billyburnette.net
 |
Billy Burnette is the epitome of a rock star – he exudes talent, good looks, and the rock star aura wherever he goes and understandably so, given his journey as a musician, singer, songwriter, guitarist.
Born in Memphis, singer/songwriter/guitarist, Dorsey William Burnette III (aka Billy Burnette) spent most of his youth in the presence of father Dorsey and uncle Johnny (of the legendary Rock and Roll Trio). The Trio made the Rockabilly name famous by combining the name Billy and his cousin Rocky for the 1953 “Rockabilly Boogie” – thus making the term Rockabilly a household name.
The legendary Rock and Roll Trio influenced a diverse array of Rock icons including: the Elvis, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rod Stewart, Aerosmith, and Ricky Nelson. Elvis used to spend many evenings jamming with the band in the Lauderdale Courts laundry room. Recounts Billy: “I met Paul McCartney once and he said that the Trio were one of his and John’s (Lennon’s) influences – nobody was making music like that back then.”
It’s not surprising given his upbringing that Billy’s list of accomplishments in the music arena is both impressive and diverse. Billy has amassed four decades of experience recording music, writing songs, and performing since embarking upon his career at age 7.
His first single, a Christmas song, “Hey Daddy” was recorded on Dot Records. When he was only 11, Billy recorded several songs for A&M Records, including one from Dr. Seuss titled “Just Because We’re Kids,” which Herb Albert produced and played trumpet on. By 13, the young Burnette was entertaining the troops with Brenda Lee in the Far East.
But it wasn’t until he was 15 or 16 that Billy picked up a guitar and began writing songs. Heavily influenced by the Beatles, Delaney, Bonnie & Friends, and his dad’s music, Billy learned the songwriting craft from some of the greats. “It’s really funny because I grew up thinking that everyone wrote songs. I mean my dad did it, my uncle did it…”
At 18, Billy Burnette was only a week out of high school when he recorded his Columbia Records album with famed Memphis hit-making producer Chips Moman (“Suspicious Minds” and “In the Ghetto” for Elvis as well as multiple hits for the likes of Aretha Franklin and BJ Thomas).
In his early 20’s, Billy played guitar for Roger Miller as well as for his father, Dorsey Burnette. Meanwhile, Billy also continued his solo career, which included recording records and writing for such hit makers as Rod Stewart, Ray Charles, Roy Orbison, Tammy Wynette, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Everly Brothers, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Glen Campbell, Eddy Raven, and many more.
In 1980, Billy Burnette made the biggest solo record recording deal in history with Columbia Records. Shortly after signing on with Columbia Records, Burnette met Mick Fleetwood (of Fleetwood Mac) at an “American Bandstand” party. The two musicians became fast friends and formed the band Mick Fleetwood’s Zoo in 1983.
The Zoo was a Hollywood star-studded jam band, which was sometimes joined by artists such as Stevie Nicks, Roy Orbison, Bob Seger, Eddy Van Halen and others. During that time, Burnette continued to expand his solo career. He constantly penned new tunes while introducing Country music to a new sound.
By 1985, Burnette signed on with MCA/Curb. During that year, Billy was nominated as “Best New Male Vocalist” by the Academy of Country Music in competition against Randy Travis, Keith Whitley, Marty Stuart, and T. Graham Brown.
His promising Country music career took a sudden turn with one phone call. Burnette tells the story: “I was in an LA studio with Roy Orbison cutting a song I’d written, “Dream You,” for the Mystery Girl album when Mick (Fleetwood) called and asked me to join Fleetwood Mac.” With a number one record worldwide and a sold out world tour, Billy began his journey as a member of one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Burnette toured with Fleetwood Mac between 1987-1995 and appears on such records as: The Chain, Fleetwood Mac/Greatest Hits, Behind the Mask and The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac.
At the height of his Fleetwood Mac stint, Billy’s songs were being recorded by such famed artists as: Roy Orbison, Ray Charles, Rod Stewart, Cher, Faith Hill, and Greg Allman.
Billy’s natural good looks and ease on stage did not go unnoticed in Hollywood. Burnette landed parts in several feature films including: Richy Rich, The Addams Family Reunion, Casper and Wendy, Not Like Us, and the leading role in Saturday Night Special, which featured Burnette’s songs throughout the film.
Later, Burnette returned to Nashville and landed a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records, for whom he recorded the aptly named Coming Home. With Coming Home, Burnette re-entered the Country charts with the hit “Tangled Up in Texas.”
Burnette then teamed up with Bekka Bramlett, also of Fleetwood Mac association, to record Bekka and Billy. The Bekka and Billy record was well-received by music fans, artists, and critics alike.
During this period, around 2003, Billy co-wrote a tune for Bonnie Raitt and Ray Charles called “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind.” This tune appeared on the album Genius Loves Company, which was the last studio album recorded and completed by Charles. Genius Loves Company garnered 10 grammy nominations and won Album of the Year.
In 2006, Billy Burnette recorded one of the most revered Rockabilly albums of his career, Memphis in Manhattan. Memphis was recorded “live” in Manhattan at St. Peter’s Church. Burnette thrived on the live approach to recording: “Doing it live brings out a certain energy in you, because you know you’re under the gun and you have to get it right then and there. And there’s something to be said for that. It was pretty wild. I had a lot of fun recording this record…it was a great experience, and it’s something I’m really proud of overall.”
On Memphis, Burnette not only recorded several original tunes – five of which were written with friend Shawn Camp (a successful songwriter and Bluegrass recording artist), but also payed tribute to his father and uncle, by recording “It’s Late” and “Tear it Up.” In addition, Burnette recorded an Everly Brothers classic, “Bye, Bye Love,” and a song made popular by none other than Burnette’s own Memphis neighbor, Elvis: “Big Hunk of Love.”
In 2007, Billy collaborated with Shawn Camp on the album Bluegrass Elvises Vol. 1, which rose to the Top 5 on the Americana charts.
A collaboration with Shawn Camp and Dennis Morgan became the hit song “River of Love.” George Strait recorded the tune for his 2008 album Troubador, and “River of Love” went on to become Strait’s 44th Number One hit single.
In 2009, Billy had a song he co-wrote entered into the Eurovision Song Contest. The song was performed by Tone Damli Aaberge and went on to reach Number One on Norway’s music charts. Billy was also awarded an honorary doctorate in music by Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia.
In the last few years, Billy Burnette contributed his talents as a guitar player and singer on tours with legendary musicians Bob Dylan and John Fogerty. Additionally, Burnette has also collaborated regularly with the Mick Fleetwood Band.
And so, that brings Billy Burnette’s incredible musical journey up to the present. Where to from here? Billy continues to write, record and perform. He has a number of projects in the works including a new solo album. Despite over 40 years of making and sharing his songs with the world, Burnette’s musical journey is far from over.

LEE ROCKER "Black Cat Bone" | Ankom: 2011-08-21 Label: Alligator Records leerocker.com
 |
This is Lee Rocker's second disc on Alligator and though it rocks as hard as the first one, there are moments when this disc shows that there is an occasional slower tempoed cut (What I Don't Know, is a true belly rubber) or two in this rocker known more for his vibrant energy and straight ahead all out punk rockabilly. Don't think he has forsaken his full speed ahead style but he is just as adept when he does slow it down to a less frenetic pace than his usual. This disc has ten of the thirteen songs penned or co-written by Rocker and the covers are of One More Night by Bob Dylan (quite a nice cover), Crazy When She Drinks, by one of his guitarists, Buzz Campbell, and Leon Payne's, Lost Highway. The songs are all done with just he and his road band which has been together for awhile and is as road tested and as tight as he could want. The band is made up of; Buzz Campbell, guitar, Brophy Dale, slide guitar and vocals, Jimmy Sage on drums and of course Rocker, playing his upright bass, vocals and acoustic guitar.
This disc is an extension of the work he was doing with the Stray Cats, a Rockabilly band he formed with High School friends Brian Setzer, and Slim Jim Phantom in the early 80s on Long Island, NY, that eventually had to go to England to get a break. The band split up a few years later and they each went their own way, Rocker continuing to explore the Rockabilly field and doing a good job of expanding its parameters. This is an excellent disc by this extremely talented bassist (if you want to hear some excellent upright bass playing there are few better to learn from) and Alligator Records has done a good job getting his music out there for the public.

PATTY REESE "Strong Medicine" | Ankom: 2011-08-07 Label: Azalea City Recordings pattyreese.com
 |
After a standing ovation following her performance at the packed Strathmore Music Center during the recent Woodstock tribute, Patty Reese’s attitude with soulful expression and her powerhouse pipes proved a match for the likes of Janis Joplin and other prolific and important artists. Other comparisons have been made, that Reese claims as influences, including Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen.
Patty Reese performs more than 250 dates a year, released a WAMMIE award winning album “Here and Now” and has garnered
multiple songwriting awards over the years. Her powerhouse vocals, strong work ethic and honed songwriting skills have
led her to the recording of her best work to date Strong Medicine.
On the new CD, between acoustic guitar-accompanied story songs and powerful songs backed by a full band, Patty puts all of her crafts to work. The title track, Strong Medicine,
tells of the healing power of love with a beguiling, smokey vocal performance over a blues groove reminiscent of Al Green. “Last Call for Love,” a closing time, slow dance,
anthem; is perhaps the most revealing of Patty’s style—direct sincerity with a soulful delivery. Crowd pleaser “Who’s Got Your Back” resonates soundly as the song’s Roots Rock, Surf, and Blues tones are juxtaposed with the lyrics’ “Gospel truth.”
Among the originals by Reese, also are three tracks—all standout unique versions of other artists
songs including “Keep Me in Your Heart” (Warren Zevon), “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” (George Harrison) and “Buckets
of Rain,” (Bob Dylan) which all perfectly showcase Reese’s intimate, tender and
dynamic vocal range.
The CD Features the Reese's outstanding band as well as special guest appearances by award winning musicians and/or vocalists, Deanna Bogart, Donna Britton, Nadine Rae, Jen Smith and Jay Britton.

JOHN GAAR "Brighter side of maybe" | Ankom: 2011-08-07 Label: www.johngaar.com album |
The Here and Now:
John Gaar is a captivating soulful singer with a deft and provocative guitar style that converges to create a powerful and indelible impression. Emanating from the cultural-musical diversity of a rural Louisiana upbringing is the distinct style and energy of his music. His acclaimed 2004 titled Bittersweet Success debut album introduced his style to the world and his latest album, 2011's Brighter Side of Maybe, brings it to new heights. Gaar's sound is a purely post-modern expression of the artistic and cultural journey that has transformed southern roots music into a sonic organic sound of America. His distinctive sound embraces multiple eras and genres, including blues, rock, folk, Americana and jazz, all of which he is well-versed. For John Gaar, the common bond between these influences is the underlying storytelling, the power of song to convey human experience and emotional ties to a spiritual connection.
Brighter Side of Maybe introduces ten new introspectively written songs about life experiences which allow the listener to connect between the music of John Gaar and their own lives. Brighter Side of Maybe reunites keyboardist Ron D'Argenio and John Gaar after their successful recording and tour of 2004's Bittersweet Success project. Ron D'Argenio takes a formidable role as Producer and keyboardist on 2011's Brighter Side of Maybe. Gaar and D'Argenio worked closely together to mold and hone ideas for the collection of songs that became Brighter Side of Maybe, recorded at Congress House Studio in Austin, Texas. "The vibe was really conducive to making magic happen at Congress House Studio," says Gaar. We were fortunate to have the skills and exceptional musicianship from the talents of longtime friends, New York bassist, Mark Harris, powerhouse drummer percussionist, Cody Banks, dear friend & vocalist Malford Milligan, soulful vocalist, Michael Cross, vocalist Ginger Leigh, strings creation, Warren Hood and Brian Standerfer and the hard working creative staff at Congress House Studio.
From Whence He Came:
Southern Roots, Southern Soul.
John Gaar was born and raised in the midst of the magical music melting pot of Louisiana. He picked up the guitar at 13 and was playing gigs in smalltown, smoke-filled bars by the time he was 16. From that point on it became all about the music and how it made him feel - and how he could make others feel deep into their souls through his own singing and playing. It was at 18 he had the choice to go on the road with a band, or go to college on a music scholarship -- John chose the road and hasn't looked back!
The Journey.
In 1981 John's first real taste of R&B, Soul, Southern Roots, Americana, Blues, and Zydeco music was a two-year stint with his brother, Red Hot recording artist, Burton Gaar, with Zydeco-musician, Rockin' Sydney - best known for his grammy-award winning hit crossover song, "My Toot Toot." John then next toured throughout the South with two bands, one a seven-piece R&B horn band, and the other a New Orleans groove band. Then he landed a gig with Miss Molly and the Passions, a ballsy, foul-mouthed, bull-whip-toting band from Lake Charles, LA, that was voted Houston's No. 1 Band -- three years running.
After three years with the Passions, John's circumstances forced him to move to the Bay Area where he had to deal with culture shock, a deference of musical attitudes, and no money -- so he played every gig he could get his hands on in the area. By 1993 it was time to re-up on his "Southerness", so John moved back to the South (after four years in California) and headed first to Tulsa, then to Nashville, and then finally back to Louisiana, where he landed a gig with Blind Pig recording artist, Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band, a rockin' Zydeco Blues band.
John toured the US and Europe 300 dates a year for the next five years with Carrier. Then John decided to "get off the bus and stay awhile," by going back to the Bay Area to play, put his own band together, record his own songs and have a lot of fun doing what he loves! After much success with his own band, including being selected for the Monterey Blues Festival after the band was just 5 months old, John decided to pick up and move to Austin, Texas to further his career goals in the land that he loves -- the South! First up was recording and touring his 2004 Bittersweet Success CD, as well as singing and playing with fellow Austin-ites Malford Milligan, Miss Lavelle White, Tracy Conover, Michael Cross, and more.
Guitarist--Vocalist--Songwriter--and Showman!
John has emerged from his journey so far to find that doing his own thing is the right thing to do! From his incredibly soulful guitar playing to his unmistakably talented and unique voice to page after page of skillfully penned songs and his southern charm -- and you have John Gaar, a true and consummate player and showman.

STACI´S EDGE "I´ve got it all" | Ankom: 2011-06-07 Label: www.stacisedge.com digi |
Staci Butler (Vocals, Lead Guitar, Piano), Chris Shaw (Guitar, Vocals), Corey Moss (Bass) and Kirk Gentle (Drums). Staci's Edge offers an opportunity to hear some of the best rock music in town. They were nominated by the Houston Press "Best of Houston 2010" awards as one of the top bands in the city. Butler's searing guitar riffs, inspired by the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, beautifully compliment her fresh, indy-rock melodies in ways that are nothing short of innovative. Rounding out their distinctive sound, Staci's Edge boasts some of the most consummate musicians on the current indy circuit. Guitarist Chris Shaw proves the old saying that you can never have too much of a good thing by weaving his own 6-string stylings seamlessly around Butler's, bassist Corey Moss adds the driving thump that keeps audiences on their feet, and drummer Kirk Gentle is anything but, as he seals each song with precise rhythmic style.
It's been a long road for lead singer, songwriter and guitarist, Staci Butler, whose life experiences have influenced both the sound and identity of Staci's Edge in numerous ways. In 2003, Butler put the guitar down and bowed out of Houston’s music scene to start a family. Two years later, her world was rocked by a cancerous diagnosis. Butler found her fighting spirit and battled through ten months of chemo and radiation therapies. She came through it with a clean bill of health, a new lease on life and a determined inspiration for her music.
"I was so grateful for a new chance at living," says Butler. "I decided that if I was going to make my dreams a reality I needed to do it now."
She sat at her piano and was inspired to write “For the First Time.” A song about her new view on life,— if you work hard and believe in yourself, you can achieve anything.
"I was going to start living my dream for the first time", says Butler.
She’'s done just that! Butler has been cancer free for 5 years and her new mantra has paid off for her and her band. Staci's Edge was formed in 2008 and their fan base has been growing steadily ever since. With the release of their new CD “I’ve Got It All,” more success is on the horizon for Staci's Edge

THE REFRESHMENTS "Ridin along with The Refreshments" | Ankom: 2011-06-03 Label: Darrow Records www.refreshments.nu

GINA SICILIA "Can´t Control Myself" | Ankom: 2011-04-24 Label: VizzTone
 |
Young Philadelphia songstress Gina Sicilia exploded onto the scene in 2007, as her debut CD, ALLOW ME TO CONFESS, was met with joyous acclaim by fans and critics alike. She was heralded as a distinctive new voice in the Blues, as well as an insightful songwriter and interpreter of neglected classics in the Rhythm & Blues canon. In 2008 she was nominated for “Best New Artist Debut” at the Blues
Music Awards in Memphis, Tennessee, just as her sophomore release HEY SUGAR proved her also to be a legitimate contender in the worlds of Classic Country and Americana.
With her new 2011 release, CAN’T CONTROL MYSELF, Gina broadens her stylistic palette, infusing even more Soul and Americana into her bedrock influences of Blues and R&B. This CD features seven new Gina Sicilia compositions, as well as three choice covers borrowed from Bobby Bland, Stevie Wonder, and Ike & Tina Turner. Gina’s singing and songwriting continue to break new ground, showing remarkable depth, power, and seemingly unstoppable growth. CAN’T CONTROL MYSELF was produced and engineered by Gina’s label mate, the insanely talented Dave Gross, who also played every instrumental track on the record except for trumpet, sax, and one lap-steel track.
Now 25 years old, the genre-defying Gina Sicilia continues to smash pigeonholes into kindling and redefine the boundaries of soulful music.

BEN WATERS "Boogie For Stu: A Tribute To Ian Stewart" | Ankom: 2011-03-26 Label: Eagle
album |
Eagle Records is delighted to release “Boogie 4 Stu” on 18 April 2011. The album is in tribute to pianist Ian Stewart, a founding member of the Rolling Stones, who went on to serve as their long-term road manager. “Boogie 4 Stu” was dreamt up and produced by fellow pianist Ben Waters, a member The A, B, C and D of Boogie Woogie, which also features Charlie Watts. The album is released to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation, and is released near the 25th anniversary of Stewart’s death. The album is mixed by Glynn Johns and the front cover is a newly commissioned portrait of Ian Stewart by Sir Peter Blake.
Initially planned by Waters as a solo album, “Boogie 4 Stu” soon took on a life of its own. “When I told Charlie Watts that I was going to record the album, he asked to be on it. I asked Jools Holland if I could hire his studio. He said ‘No’, but that I could have it for free and that he would like to play on the album too, as Ian was a mate.” Letters to other friends and former colleagues of Stu outlining the project elicited the simple response, “Where do we need to be and when?” Ben Waters, of course, plays on every track and is joined on one by his cousin PJ Harvey. Waters says, “Everyone who is on the ‘Boogie 4 Stu’ album knew Ian Stewart really well, in fact most told me that he was their best mate! Despite this I felt many music fans need an introduction to the man and his music. To some he was a roadie that played a bit of piano, to his friends and fans the opposite was true.” Most of the music on the album was laid down live, after no more than a couple of takes, and the atmosphere in the studio was fantastic.
The album highlight for many will be the version of Bob Dylan’s song "Watchin' The River Flow”. This features Mick Jagger on vocals & harmonica, Keith Richards on guitar, Charlie Watts on drums, Ronnie Wood on guitar and Bill Wyman on bass. It's the first time Wyman has recorded with his former colleagues since 1992. As well as his work with the Rolling Stones, Ian Stewart played with a host of other talents including Led Zeppelin [this album is named after their track ‘Boogie With Stu’], Howlin’ Wolf, The Yardbirds, his own band Rocket88 and more. Keith Richards said, "Ian Stewart. I'm still working for him. To me the Rolling Stones is his band. Without his knowledge and organization ... we'd be nowhere."
As a kid starting out in music, Waters learnt to play in Ian Stewart’s style, whom he saw perform at an event organized by his family. “He had a collection of cine footage featuring Albert Ammons, Pete Johnson and Meade Lux Lewis, I got access to those, and learned more by playing along. Some of his own performances were there too including the Montreux Jazz Festival. I love his style. No one else played like him, he was unique.” Waters went on to join Stewart’s former band Rocket 88 and, of course, to play with Charlie Watts, so it seems that Ian Stewart has never been far away. “I played with a band in Dorset with Hamish Maxwell [also on this album], who is exactly 40 years older than me, and it turned out he’d been Ian’s best man!”
The evolution of “Boogie 4 Stu” from solo tribute to an album featuring some of the incredible talent that Ian Stewart came into orbit with has been amazing. There are two shows booked in at the Ambassador's Theatre in London on March 9th. These will feature The A,B,C & D Of Boogie Woogie as the house band, with Jools Holland hosting and various special guest appearances. The album finishes with the Sam Cooke track ‘Bring It On Home’, performed by Ian Stewart with Rocket 88 at the Montreux Jazz Festival. As Waters says, “Ian Stewart was not a man who liked a fuss, but he would have loved the music on this album, and I wanted him to play it out.
“Boogie For Stu: A Tribute To Ian Stewart” will be released on April 18th.

DANNY & THE JUNIORS featuring JOE JERRY "We´re forever & ever & ever yours" | Ankom: 2011-03-20 Label: Nova Music dannyandthejuniors.com
 |
Danny & The Juniors, individually Frank Maffei, Danny Rapp, Joe Terranova and Dave White, began singing together in the early 1950's at ages 13 and 14 in Philadelphia where they were fans of the local rhythm and blues radio stations. It was there they heard the first stirrings of a new music soon to become known as Rock 'N Roll. The Juvenaires, as they were called then, quickly decided to become part of the new movement and began to perform the new songs as well as their own original material at school dances, local clubs and restaurants.
At that time, record companies were engaged in a frenzied search for young people who could perform the new music. It wasn't very long before they discovered the youths, re-named them Danny & The Juniors and recorded them singing one of their own original songs called At The Hop.
The song quickly became a monumental hit on five continents reaching #1 on the pop, country and rhythm and blues charts. It stands today as the #23 all-time biggest record according to The Billboard Magazine List Of #1 Hits. The Group immediately followed with another hit, Rock And Roll Is Here To Stay, which became an anthem of the era, plus dance classics Twistin' USA and Pony Express. These were the first of a string of eleven charted recordings. Their latest albums are the MCA' release Rockin' With Danny And The Juniors, the Collectibles release Danny And The Juniors - Classic Golden Greats, and the Grammy considered children’s CD, For Cool Grandkids Everywhere on the Street Gold label. In the recent past they have had Carolina Beach Music hits Stranger On The Shore and House On Fire, which reached # 1 on the Beach Music charts.
Early in 1958 Dick Clark presented Danny And The Juniors with a gold record for At The Hop on American Bandstand, the first of many awards and accolades they would receive over their career, including Best New Group of 1957, a star on Philadelphia’s Broad Street Walk Of Fame along with the presentation of the prestigious Philadelphia Music Alliance Achievement Award and the New Jersey Legislature’s 50th Anniversary of ‘At The Hop’ award.
With the success of At The Hop, Danny And The Juniors began touring with the other early legends and founders of American Rock In Roll such as: Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis and The Platters in the famous Alan Freed Big Beat Show, as well as appearing at many of the nations top nightclubs, arenas and fairs. To this day they have traveled millions of miles and entertained millions of people in all fifty states, Canada, Europe, South America and Asia.
Danny And The Juniors have made over 100 American Bandstand appearances and have been on numerous television shows – including The Patti Page Big Record Show, The Pat Boone Show, The Midnight Special, The Sha-Na-Na Show, Solid Gold and Nashville Now. They've also been featured in three motion pictures and their songs have been in many more. Danny And The Juniors have been covered in many important national publications including Life, Billboard, Cashbox and Teen. The latest of these is a recent USA Today article that points out the broad appeal of Danny And The Juniors and their music across many demographic categories.
Now, in their sixth decade as performers, the group still appears at a multitude of venues including conventions, theatres, clubs, casinos, fairs and festivals. Their wholesome, fun-loving stage show is embellished with comedy, impressions, bright costumes and audience participation -- while still preserving the rich history of their music -- and is regarded as one of the best in the business.

GREGG ALLMAN "Low Country Blues" | Ankom: 2011-01-27 Label: Rounder Records
album |
“I’ve got my hand over my heart,” Gregg Allman says of his extraordinary new album, “and if it’s a hit there, it’s a hit.”
As a founding member of the one and only Allman Brothers Band and in his own storied solo career, Allman has long been a gifted natural interpreter of the blues, his soulful and distinctive voice one of the defining sounds in the history of American music. Low Country Blues marks the legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s seventh solo recording and first in more than 13 years. Produced by T Bone Burnett, the album finds Allman putting his own stamp on songs by some of the blues giants whose work has long influenced his own, from Muddy Waters and BB King to Buddy Guy and Magic Sam. Named for the coastal Georgia region Allman calls home, Low Country Blues stands as a high water mark in an already remarkable body of work, rich with passion, verve, and the unerring confidence of a true survivor.
Though Allman has been a constant presence on the road over the past decade, with The Allman Brothers Band as well as with his own crack combo, he has spent precious little time in the studio since the 2002 death of producer Tom Dowd – the man behind the glass for much of his recorded career. So when his manager suggested he veer off from a 2009 tour for a Memphis meeting with the multiple Grammy Award-winning Burnett, Allman admits to being not entirely enthused.
“I said, ‘Oh man, I don’t wanna start meeting a string of dudes, all of ‘em trying to outdo the other one,” he recalls. “But we stopped in Memphis and here comes T Bone. The first sentence out of his mouth was something like, ‘Tommy Dowd was The Man, wasn’t he? I’ve patterned a lot of my stuff after that gentleman.’ I thought, ‘Right, what’ve we got here?’”
The two musicians quickly bonded, chatting about favorite records, mutual friends, and reminiscences of Nashville’s renowned clear channel station, WLAC, which introduced rhythm & blues music to a generation of late night listeners from New York to Miami.
“He told me some guy gave him a hard drive, it has 10,000 obscure blues songs,” Allman says. “He says, ‘I’m gonna pick out twenty of ‘em and send ‘em to ya and you tell me what you think.’ He said, ‘They’re old, like Billie Holliday old, and when you listen to ‘em, I want you to think about us gettin’ in there and about bringin’ ‘em up to today.’”
Allman found the idea irresistible and in January 2010, a stunning combo was assembled at Los Angeles’ The Village Recorder, comprising Burnett and Doyle Bramhall II on guitars, backed by the brilliant rhythm section of upright bassist Dennis Crouch and drummer Jay Bellerose. What’s more, the lineup included a brass section arranged and conducted by trumpeter Darrell Leonard, whose illustrious resume extends back to his work with Delaney & Bonnie & Friends (featuring Gregg’s late, great brother Duane). As if that weren’t enough, sitting in on piano was a dear old friend, the Night Tripper himself, Mac “Dr. John” Rebennack, with whom Allman co-wrote “Let This Be A Lesson To Ya’” on The Gregg Allman Band’s 1977 classic, Playin’ Up A Storm.
“T Bone knew that that him being there would put a certain fire in my ****,” Allman says. “It was so good seeing Dr. John, both of us being sober. ‘Cause last time I saw him, both of us were pretty much nose to the floor. He’s such a nice dude,
he’s funny, God, is he funny. Before he was so stoned, it didn’t really come out full force, but oh man, he is hilarious!”
This powerhouse band – which of course also features Gregg’s own acoustic guitar expertise and trademark Hammond B-3 organ – cooks up an earthy and atmospheric musical stew infused with gritty R&B muscle, spooky Southern psychedelia, and greasy deep soul grooves.
“The band was just a ****, man,” Allman says. “It’s not all just a wall of guitars – not that there’s anything at all wrong with The Brothers, because that’s very, very tasty.”
The tracking came fast and furious, kicking off with an ominous take on Sleepy John Estes’ ominous “Floating Bridge.” From there, the album covers the blues’ many emotional terrains, from exuberant showstoppers like Little Milton’s “Blind Man” and the album’s one original composition, the swaggering “Just Another Rider” (co-written with longtime ABB guitarist Warren Haynes), to Skip James’ haunted “Devil Got My Woman” and the weary but unbowed traditional, “Rolling Stone.”
“If it works right, it all turns real magic,” Allman says. “And that’s what happened this time, more so I think than anything I’ve ever recorded. We got 15 masters in 11 days; let me tell ya, they just went Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop!”
When it came to vocals, Burnett was determined to push Allman out of his comfort zone, encouraging spontaneity and soul above all else. “First takes scare me to death,” he says, “they really do. On about three or maybe four of ‘em, Bone comes over the microphone, ‘Alright, we got it.’ I said, ‘Well wait, hold it, hold it! What do you mean got it? We just ran it down!’ ‘No, we got it.’ I went back in the control room, I said, ‘Man, I know I can get it better than that.’ He says, ‘What’s wrong with that?’ I said, ‘Well, nothin’s wrong with it, I just think I can do it with a little more interesting feel.’ So we went back out there, I tried, man, I tried as hard as I could. Nope.”
Indeed, Allman’s instantly identifiable voice remains a wonder, wringing nuance and history from every lyric. “I have an evolved throat,” he says. “I think I’m a little more meticulous now. I’m a real stickler for melody. I used to think more about beat than I did about melody, but now I think about both of ‘em. See, you’ve got to have beat, because first of all, you’ve got to feel something as well as hear it. Both of those entities have to be really personified in my book.”
Like any genuine bluesman, Allman’s own life has been colored by myriad triumphs and too many tragedies. Low Country Blues was initially slated for a mid-2010 release, but that plan changed when Gregg, who had long battled chronic Hepatitis C, was notified that he was a candidate for a liver transplant. In June 2010, he entered the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida where he successfully underwent the difficult surgery. Knowing that he had only just made one of the defining albums of his recorded career proved to be the best medicine, giving Allman the inner strength he needed to fully heal.
“This record’s one of the things that’s held me together,” he says. “Because when I woke up in the hospital from this incredibly big surgery, I held on to the idea that, hey man, you’ve got a record in the can!”
An inveterate road warrior, Allman is understandably itching to return to the endless highway. He spent the months following the surgery hitting both the gym and the rehearsal studio, working hard to restore his vitality to its requisite level. Moreover, Allman is justifiably proud of Low Country Blues and is eager to get out there to bring these songs to his countless fans.
“When you have a new record it always feels different,” he says. “Man, you gotta get out there and move the muscles, you gotta move it and shake it.”
“It’s been too long,” he adds. “I guess I was just born with a lot of gypsy in my soul.”
Simply put, Low Country Blues is Gregg Allman at his very best, a self-assured, spirited collection that will stand as a major milestone in what is undeniably an exceptional career. “Places you been, things that you done/Somehow you’re still on the run,” Allman sings on “Just Another Rider.” Long may he run.

PATRIK JANSSON BAND "Patrik Jansson Band" | Ankom: 2011-01-12 Label: Sneaky Foot Redcords www.patrikjanssonband.com album |

Through the years Jim Boyd's soulful voice and reflections have won him an international following. Many compare his style of music to an early Bob Dylan while others compare his rock-n-roll to that of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Marshall Tucker. He first began performing with many cover bands before performing with original music groups XIT, Greywolf and Winterhawk before branching out on his own.
Growing up in a military family, Jim Boyd learned first hand the sacrifices of our armed forces. His new release "Harley High" is not only a main stream recording portraying Jim's love for riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, it is a tribute to Veterans worldwide and their families.
Musicians besides Boyd include Garry Tallent (Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band), Craig Krampt (Steve Perry, Alabama, Kim Carnes, among others), David Roe (Johnny Cash, Jerry Reed, Dwight Yoakam, among others), Sandy Pippen (top Nashville studio musician), Dale Herr (creator for musical scores The Simpsons, the 70’s Show, Married with Children, and more).

THE KNOCKOUTS "Ever been hurt" | Ankom: 2010-12-01 Label: Sound Pollution
digi |
The Knockouts - EVER BEEN HURT, has a cocky attitude. A song that takes a pure country styling, mixes the craft of rockabilly together with the guts and authenicity of punkrock. A country ballard that takes a breather in an album full of high energy 'knockout' songs that stay in your head all day long.
Maybe Social Distortion have been trying to write this song for the last 25 years - The Knockouts take it one step further - laying this country tune at your feet ... and then watching the others go down for the count.
'With faith in PunkRock since 1996' and with a solid grip on the live music scene throughout Scandinavia, The Knockouts from Stockholm, Sweden, NEW full length album - AMONG THE VULTURES has recieved over 40 reviews across Europe, USA and UK since the ablums release in Scandinavia, Nov 27 2009.
As the momentum builds, The Knockouts are touring throughout Europe, performing sweaty high energy sold out shows.
"...It's the real deal kids and these songs prove that this band can stand on its own six feet and punch their own hole in a genre of music through the quality of the songwriting which just happens to shine through like an absolute huge fuck off diamond. ...”

STAN ERHART "Close Down / Let me down easy" | Ankom: 2010-11-22 Label: MusicSUBMIT erhart.net/ digi |
Seven radio friendly originals and six Blues/R&B classics performed by some of northern California's favorite musicians. Stan Erhart on vocals & guitar, Michael Warren on bass (Merl Saunders, Leo Nocentelli), Randy Hayes on drums & harmonies (Coco Montoya, John Wedemeyer), Nancy Wright on tenor sax (B.B. King, John Lee Hooker), Mike Emerson on keys (Elvin Bishop, Percy Sledge), plus Garth Webber on guitar [tracks 10 & 12] (Miles Davis, Ford Brothers Blues Band). Great feel and tight arrangements performed by a world class band that's not afraid to take chances. What could be better? Recorded & mixed at Garth Webber's Red Rooster Studio, Berkeley, Ca.
The Stan Erhart Band ... by way of Kansas City and Chicago to San Francisco ...
Stan Erhart's musical roots began deep on the family farm in Kansas; where a day's work was accompanied by the twang of country guitars and the rhythm of John Deere tractors. Sideman work in the Chicago clubs came next, before moving to San Francisco to form one of the busiest bands in the Bay Area. Believing in well written tunes and killer grooves, the band has a grand ole time delivering the goods. A great big plate of roots rockin' blues with a little of everything on the side!

COMMANDER CODY "Dopers, Drunks and Everyday Losers" | Ankom: 2010-10-25 Label: Blind Pig Records
digi |
Look in any book on the History of Rock and Roll and you will find Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen The band's name was inspired by 1950's film serials featuring the character Kommando Kody and from a feature version of an earlier serial, King of the Rocket Men, released under the title Lost Planet Airmen. The band's founder and leader, George Frayne, took the stage name Commander Cody. Among many other achievements, this eight piece super band's album Deep in the Heart of Texas is one of Rolling Stone Magazine's top 100 albums of all time. Its no wonder Billy C Farlow, the lead singer, also played trumpet and blues harp. The fiddler, Andy Stein, played saxophone and the guitar player, Bill Kirchen, played trombone. Cody the piano pounder, doubled on Kazoo. And they all sang. They toured non stop to a legion of dedicated fans across the globe and back and recorded seven original albums before the band finally broke up and each member went their separate ways in 1977.
Since the breakup, each band member has continued the legend by fronting and recording their own smaller groups, sitting in with each other from time to time, and doing occasional band reunion performances.
In 1986, the Commander Cody Band recorded the powerful album, Let's Rock! that was released on Blind Pig. Let's Rock! does just that, featuring compositions in the old Cody tradition like "Truck Stop at the End of the World" and "Rockabilly Funeral" among others.
The Commander Cody Band relocated to the east coast in 1997 and has been going strong ever since. Cody and his group are still wowing crowds at festivals, giant biker conventions and college concerts in the U.S. and Europe, as well as sleazy, down home, uptown and/or very posh roadhouses and bars. As of late Cody has also been artist in residence as well as boogie woogie pianist extraordinaire on The Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise extravaganzas. George Frayne is also a highly respected and sought after artist, having received his bachelor's degree in Design from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in Sculpture and Painting from the Rackham School of Graduate Studies of the University of Michigan. He has taught at the University of Michigan and Wisconsin State University, and has had his art exhibited at numerous shows.
Today the Commander Cody Band features Mark Emerick on guitar, Steve Barbuto on drums, Chris Olsen on pedal steel, and Randy Bramwell on bass. Cody is still trying to pound his piano into submission. And they all sing.
When Commander Cody suggested this new project during a casual conversation with label owner Jerry Del Giudice, Blind Pig Records quickly signed on. It's the Commander's first studio record in 20 years. Ever since his wild, early days as front man for the Lost Planet Airmen the Old Commander has plowed his own path through the fields of the American music scene as one of its few truly unique and iconoclastic figures. His special blend of old-time rock 'n' roll, redneck country, boogie-woogie and swing has virtually defined American roots music. Dopers, Drunks And Everyday Losers will delight old and new fans alike with its mix of new songs and classics from the Cody catalog. Produced by Cody and Professor Louie Hurwitz of Cromatix fame at Woodstock Studio in Woodstock New York, the album's highlights include updated versions of "Seeds and Stems Again", "Seven-Eleven", "Wine, Do Yer Stuff", "Semi Truck" and first time cover versions by Cody of "Tennessee Plates" and the "No, No Song" as well as many new surprises, 14 tracks in all.
As the Commander states from Ozone headquarters in Saratoga Springs, New York "I'm glad Blind Pig Records was excited about this project and gave us the opportunity to make the recording we wanted to make. I've known these guys since their Ann Arbor days and I know they'll do a great job of getting the word out. Now we just want to get out there and continue to bring our music to the people. Let's Rock USA!"

SWEET MIKEY C "Rock ´n Roll Time Capsule" | Ankom: 2010-09-28 Label: PMRC
album |
I will tell you that Sweet Mikey C is not my real name. As if you couldn't figure that out by yourself. Because Tom Petty's guitar player, Mike Campbell, and I have the same name, I decided to use Sweet Mikey C.
My family moved from Phoenix to Odessa, Texas in November, 1956, the middle of my third grade year. We pulled into Furr's Supermarket, which had a small room for kids that featured a TV. The Teen Kings were on. Their singer was a young cat named Roy Orbison. If my memory serves me correctly, the show was called the Hub Jamboree, sponsored by Pioneer Furniture, and it was Saturday. If it does not serve me correctly, I'm sure someone from West Texas will let me know. But, heck, boys, I was only in the third grade.
Before leaving Phoenix, I was already hooked on Elvis. And that's Scotty Moore's fault. The sound of his guitar and how he played it were very addicting to a youngster. Then came Buddy Holly. Another early influence was Dean Martin. In those days I wanted to look like Elvis, sound like Roy Orbison, and be as cool as Dean Martin. Still do. Oh, well.
Years later I wanted to make a record with those early sounds, mixed in with some oldies and some original tunes. And then drummer Shannon Ford introduced me to Danny Gatton. I had never heard of Danny, but while listening to a live recording of their band, I knew he was the one I wanted to play on this record.
Produced by Danny Gatton, Shannon Ford, Mike Campbell. Recorded and Engineered at Big Mo by Ed Eastridge. Mixed at Seventeen Grand by Dave Cline, Michael Teaney, Assistant. Mastered at Master Mix by Hank Williams

ERJA LYYTINEN "Oil and water" | Ankom: 2010-09-13 Label:
digi |
Live:
29/9 Södertälje - Estrad
30/9 Uppsala, Katalin - Med Wentus B.B. + Duke Robbilard
1/10 Örnsköldsvik, Brux - blueskällaren
2/10 Härnösand, Metropol

ROCKIT 88 BAND "Sweet Sugar Cane" | Ankom: 2010-09-01 Label: 7 Arts Music

In 2003 piano/vocalist Bill King paired down his dream band featuring partner – guitarist Neil Chapman - the Saturday Nite Fish Fry to the rhythm section and allowed it to feast on its own vices. A steady Friday night gig at RD’s Barbeque & Blues in Toronto helped the four-piece find a name, attitude, distinct personality and new repertoire. The sound was classic blues with a bit of New Orleans and Southern rock sprinkled on top for seasoning. The group’s debut went on to capture a Maple Blues Award for Best New Artist and a Juno nomination for best blues album.
It's now 2010 and the Rockit 88 is back with the two founders: keyboardist/vocals Bill King and guitarist/vocals - Neil Chapman and heavyweights - Jim Casson drums, Jay Speziale bass/vocals and newcomer Stacey Bulmer sharing frontline duty. The band has revamped its sound with several months of writing new material for their second release ‘Sweet Sugar Cane.’ Blues remains at the core but the band has added a touch of country rock, Appalachian, folk electric and Southern rock to the mix. ‘Sweet Sugar Cane’ is all about storytelling - the kind that happens in the Deep South - civil rights, dignity, passion and desire, life, loss and the celebration of the human spirit. The songwriting have been called Van Morrison meets Bob Dylan.
At the core of the band’s sound is a blend of rockin’ piano, heavy slide guitar, thundering bass, pounding drums, four lead singers - a sound made to order by great American bands like the Allman Brothers and Little Feet.

RONNIE WOOD "I feel like playing" | Ankom: 2010-08-23 Label: Eagle Records
album |
Eagle Records are delighted to announce the release of Ronnie Wood’s brand new studio album “I Feel Like Playing”. The album is released on 27 September 2010. Featuring twelve brand new cuts, written specially for this release, “I Feel Like Playing” takes its name [and cover] from one of Ronnie’s most vibrant recent artworks. The colour and verve of the artwork is equally reflected in the swagger and roll of the music on the album. The album boasts an amazing set of guest artists who have colluded with Ronnie to create something truly special.
Ronnie Wood needs no introduction to any fan of British rock music. Starting his career with The Birds and then Creation, it was when Ronnie joined the Jeff Beck Group that he truly started to stamp his identity on the music world. After that group split, Ronnie – along with Rod Stewart - joined up with ex-Small Faces Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones in The Faces. Whilst Ronnie [and Rod] moved on after a couple of years, The Faces are viewed by all rock fans as a truly classic band; and in fact they perform a handful of dates in 2010 with Mick Hucknall on vocals. After the release of his first solo album, Ronnie was invited to join the Rolling Stones - in 1975 – and remains with them to this day.
Solo work has always co-existed alongside Ronnie’s band commitments and “I Feel Like Playing” is, he feels, his best album yet. Many of the friends made along the course of an incredible career appear on the album; guests include luminaries such as Slash, Flea, Billy Gibbons, Kris Kristofferson, Bobby Womack, Ian McLagan and more.
Rightly revered for his time with The Faces, Jeff Beck Group and of course The Stones, Ronnie Wood has continued to chart his own course and his output of both high quality music and art has been a constant. “I Feel Like Playing” is a great addition to his catalogue and all lovers of true British creative mavericks will find much to admire.
"Lucky Man" is the first single off of the album.

AL HENDRIX "Rare & Rockin´" | Ankom: 2010-08-20 Label: Hummingbird Records
album |
Al Hendrix was born with one of the most intriguing voices of his time. As a youth he was greatly inspired by the music of Hank Williams Sr. Al began performing and playing rhythm guitar in his teen; and has been wowing crowds with his awesome talent ever since!
Al’s first big break came in 1956 when he moved to Bakersfield, CA and met Buck Owens. Al and Buck played music together, along with Bill Woods and the Orange Blossom Playboys. At the famous Black Board Café.
In 1957, Joe Keplinger (aka: Jolly Jody), hired Al to be the lead singer for his band, Jolly Jody and the Go Daddies. The band recorded such songs as “Rhonda Lee” and “Go Daddy Rock” for the Tally label; both of which were picked up by ABC Paramount in February, 1959.
At a later date, Al was signed with LaGree Records in Hollywood, CA. He recorded “I Need You” and “Young and Wild” at Gold Star Studios, issued in 1960. Liberty Records leased both of these tracks for nation wide release. “I Need You” was a number one hit in El Paso, TX for 6 weeks; and made the top 20 in San Diego, CA. Meanwhile, Alan Freed was playing “Young and Wild” on his radio show in Los Angeles, CA (once every hour!).
Al signed with Pike Records in Bakersfield, CA, and recorded four more tracks at Gold Star Studios that same year. “Monkey Bite” and “For Sentimental Reasons”, were released in 1962. “Monkey Bite” got wonderful reviews, however, the distribution was limited as the lyrics were said to be too sexual in content. Two more tracks were produced at Pike Records: “Jumpin’ Johnny” and “Fooling Around” - these two remained unissued until 1985 when they were finally released by White Label, in Holland.
The years went by and finally in 2006, with the help of producer/engineer, Jimmy Accardi, Al cut a brand new CD with some old and some new material on it (“Rare & Rockin’!).
In April of 2008, Bob Timmers inducted Al Hendrix into the ROCKABILLY HALL OF FAME. Al went back into the studio with Jimmy Accardi in 2008 and produced his new CD Rockabilly Lovin’. Bo Berglind of American Music Magazine wrote an article on Al’s career in his March, 2004 magazine.
“Al Hendrix…Gave us some great rock & roll music, - Bo Berglind, American Music Magazine.
With this latest 2009 CD, Al treats us to twelve new songs, recently written and recorded with enthusiasm and finesse, proving that his songwriting and performing talent burns as brightly as ever.

FOGHAT "Long way home" | Ankom: 2010-06-19 Label: RadioSubmit
album |
Foghat is often linked to the classic rock genre, due to such anthems as “Slow Ride” and “Fool for the City,” but the band has always had their roots in vintage blues. So it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to longtime fans that Foghat has reconnected with the blues on their latest release, ‘Last Train Home.’ Recorded both in New York at EKO Studios and at Foghat’s own studio, Boogie Motel South, the album combines covers of such blues classics as “So Many Roads, So Many Trains” and “Shake Your Money Maker,” as well as a few new originals.
Foghat is now using The Radio Submit digital delivery system to present their new music to radio and DJ's around the world.
The group’s blues roots can be traced back to the pre-Foghat band, Savoy Brown, as well as Foghat’s first hit single - the classic cover of Willie Dixon’s “I Just Want To Make Love To You.” But perhaps the most obvious connection was a star-studded concert the band organized in 1977 at the Palladium in New York, when they hosted a benefit to start a Blues Archive at the New York Public Library. Foghat was the house band at the show, as many bona fide blues legends joined them on stage - including Muddy Waters , John Lee Hooker, Johnny Winter, Pinetop Perkins, Paul Butterfield, Honey Boy Edwards, Otis Blackwell, and Eddie ‘Bluesman’ Kirkland (the latter of which recently reconnected with the band, and led to his inclusion on ‘Last Train Home’).
‘Last Train Home’ sees Foghat’s line-up - Roger Earl (drums), Charlie Huhn (vocals/rhythm & lead guitar), and Bryan Bassett (lead & slide guitar) - joined by several special guests, including Kirkland, harmonica player Lefty “Sugar Lips” Lefkowitz, and Earl’s brother, Colin, on piano. Due to a prior commitment for the band’s bassist, Craig MacGregor, former Foghat/Savoy Brown/Outlaws bassist Jeff Howell filled in for the recording.
One mustn’t forget their roots, and Foghat once more reminds us that it’s the blues that just about every rock n’ roll style is built upon - as evidenced throughout ‘‘Last Train Home".
Complete track list for ‘Last Train Home’:
Born for the Road – Earl, Bassett, Huhn
Needle & Spoon – Chris Youlden
So Many Roads, So Many Trains – Otis Rush
Last Train Home – Huhn, Bassett, Earl
Shake Your Money Maker – Elmore James
It Hurts Me Too – Elmore James
Feel So Bad – Chuck Willis

SMOKIN´ JOE KUBEK & BNOIS KING "My heart´s in Texas" | Ankom: 2010-06-14 Label: Blind Pig Records
digi |
Despite fifteen years of incendiary shows and nearly nonstop touring, Joe Kubek and Bnois King's tenth release is, amazingly, their first live recording. "My Heart's In Texas," issued on CD and DVD, documents a blazing New Year's Eve set at the legendary J&J Blues Bar in Ft. Worth, Texas. The holiday cheer and roadhouse ambiance make for a uniquely satisfying taste of Joe and Bnois' trademark Texas blues.
There's no question why they gave Joe Kubek the nickname "Smokin'." He's one of the hottest electric guitar players on the blues scene today. Kubek has the technique and the chops to burn up any stage and has been doing so since the 1970's when he began frequenting the Dallas bar scene, playing with Stevie Ray Vaughan and people like the three Kings, B. B., Albert and Freddie. He settled into playing rhythm guitar behind Freddie King for a while, until King's death in December 1976.

Rocket Overdrive was formed in late 2009 by Christopher and Andreas, and Michael on the doublebass. First Andreas was supposed just to be a stand-in drummer in Chris and Mikes other band High-speed Generation. But Chris and Andreas had talked before about starting a new rockabillyband with a little mordern touch. And they felt now the times is right. And it was.. About 5-6 rehearsals later they recorded some songs on a tape (true old school!) that they sended to Patrik Staffansson at Enviken Records because when Chris told him about this new project he became interested and wanted to hear something as soon as possible. And he liked what he heard. And after just 10-15 rehearsals they started to record their first CD in his studio in Enviken. Without even have played together live! But just like every band, they have to play live sometime! After about a month after the start of the recording of the cd they booked their first live show. 8 hours of driving to Grand Hotell in the little town Strömsund in northern Sweden was their destination. And I know I speak for the whole band, and the most people who was there, when I say that was probably the best premiér a band could have! And this is just the begining of The tale of Rocket Overdrive.

PERCY SLEDGE "Percy Sledge Live" | Ankom: 2010-04-10 Label:
 |
Percy Sledge will forever be associated with "When a Man Loves a Woman," a pleading, soulful ballad he sang with wrenching, convincing anguish and passion. Sledge sang all of his songs that way, delivering them in a powerful rush where he quickly changed from soulful belting to quavering, tearful pleas. It was a voice that made him one of the key figures of deep Southern soul during the late '60s. Sledge recorded at Muscle Shoals studios in Alabama, where he frequently sang songs written by Spooner Oldham and Dan Penn. Not only did he sing deep soul, but Sledge was among the pioneers of country-soul, singing songs by Charlie Rich and Kris Kristofferson in a gritty, passionate style. During the '70s, his commercial success quickly faded away, but Sledge continued to tour and record into the '90s.

BILLY ADAMS "When mama started rockin´ (Daddy started singin´ the blues) / Long rough road / Studebaker boogie / Rockin´ on down the road / Rock, pretty mama (1957 45 rpm single)" | Ankom: 2010-04-09 Label: Redbush Classics

Rockabilly legend Billy Adams roars back with the much-anticipated album, Rockin On Down The Road. The full project is slated for release in May 2010.
Adams - a longtime favorite of Nashville music impresario, Billy Block and famed musicologist, Colin Escott - is pleased to offer a preview of his new music, exclusively thru AirPlay Direct.
Over a decade in the making (during which time he lost Freda, his wife of over 50 years and his middle daughter, Teresa), Rockin On Down The Road marks the first album of new music by Adams since his Sun sessions CD, Legacy, in 2000. It also includes a newly remastered version of his seminal 1957 single, Rock, Pretty Mama, copied from the original 45 rpm record housed in the collection of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and considered by many to be among the most influential songs from the golden age of rockabilly.
Rockin On Down The Road was produced by Adams and drummer, Clif Doyal, along with one of Adams original 1950s guitarists, Dave Thornhill (longtime Loretta Lynn bandleader). The two are joined by bassist, Dennis Digby (Osbourne Bros.) and acoustic guitarist, Jackie Crane. In addition to Adams trademark guitar work, the album also highlights his considerable piano skills (think Jerry Lee meets Fats Domino)

HELLSINGLAND UNDERGROUND "Madness & Grace" | Ankom: 2010-04-09 Label: Killed By Records
 |

FRANCIS ROSSI "Faded memory" | Ankom: 2010-04-01 Label: Ear Music
 |
Hamburg based earMUSIC, the international pop-rock label of the European entertainment group Edel, is proud to announce the new solo album of Status Quo frontman Francis Rossi called “One Step At A Time”. Francis Rossi, who was awarded an OBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in the New Year’s Honours List, will also undertake his first ever solo tour in May 2010, accompanied by an 8 piece band.
The Status Quo frontman has long been regarded as one of the UK’s finest Rock performers this nation has ever produced and his songwriting has been duly recognized by the Classic Songwriter Award and the BRIT Award for Outstanding Contribution To Music (jointly with Rick Parfitt). This solo album will allow him to reveal another side of himself to the Rock fraternity and also to step outside the Status Quo machine and indulge himself musically.
Rossi commented, “I never stop writing songs and melodies but there have been many tracks over the years that just weren’t right for Quo. These songs have been gathering dust in my mind for too long and now seems the right time to let them out into the world. It’s a big step for me – I love these songs so much it hurts!”
The only previous Francis Rossi album, “King Of The Doghouse” was released 14 years ago and so the new release is long overdue. The “One Step At A Time” album is hugely entertaining set and offers an insight into another facet of Rock’s great frontmen. Francis Rossi is famous for his dry wit and lyrical dash, and this album offers a chance to get up close and personal.
This is a taste from the upcoming album; the first single, "Faded Memory".

Vinnarna i Dansbandskampen 2009!

Rock Icon... Andy Fraser has recently been honored by BMI’s 3 Million Play Club for crafting the monster Rock anthem "All Right Now".
Andy Fraser is best known around the world as the legendary bassist and founding member of the 70's rock band FREE, and for writing Robert Palmer’s mega-hit "Every Kinda People".
For over four decades Fraser has been composing and songwriting with artists’ Rod Stewart, Chaka Khan, Paul Young, Joe Cocker, Paul Carrick, Wilson Pickett, Three Dog Night, Bob Seger, Randy Crawford, Etta James, Frankie Miller, Ted Nugent, and many more.
His most recent smash hit anthem “This Is The Big One” was written, performed and recorded to coincide with the efforts of others concerned about global climate change. "Music is my gift, and thus how I make my contribution", says Fraser.
The song also features virtuoso slide guitar from one of music industry’s best female guitarists, Kat Dyson. Internationally renowned in the industry, Kat was previously lead guitarist and band member for Prince and The New Power Generation during the Jam of the Year and Emancipation tours as well as his electrifying 2005 NAACP awards performance.
Fraser is standing with campaigns such as Avaaz.org, TckTckTck, Repower America, 350 and Al Gore, to help promote the message of catastrophic climate change by releasing the worldwide free download of the song. In an unprecedented move, the link to the song allows fans to forward the song to friends for free: http://www.andyfraser.com/bigone.html
In support of the song Fraser recently released the new video to worldwide acclaim.
Watch the video here:

In the video, “This Is The Big One” looks through a ticking clock at both the beauty of our planet and the stress and destruction that man has placed on the earth and is the new anthem to the perils of ignoring global warming as well as a statement about the planet’s beauty.”, says the video’s producer Eric Donaldson. “It features striking images of sandy beaches, sunsets and cascading waterfalls, juxtaposed with power plants belching flames toward the sky, melting icecaps and rising ocean levels.”, states Gary Walker, writer for the LA based newspaper The Argonaut.
The video also includes stunning footage of his daughter, Hannah Fraser, swimming with a whale pod. Rarely seen in the wild, the footage in the video was captured during the filming of Hannah swimming with whales in Tonga, VAVA'U Island. Hannah Fraser is a professional mermaid and commercial model.
Fraser is finalizing his forthcoming CD "On Assignment" which is scheduled for release in 2010 on McTrax International along with the long-awaited "Alive" concert DVD/documentary.
More is yet to come from Andy Fraser as he continues to lend his voice and creativity in support of causes that he feels passionate enough about to share with his fans.

MICKE FINELL & FRIENDS "Walking with me and Mr Lee" | Ankom: 2009-11-12 Label:

Albumet ”Walking With Me and Mr Lee” innehåller tolv välstrukturerade rocklåtar vilken ingen klockar in över 3.30.

THE BRYMERS "Where are they now?" | Ankom: 2009-11-02 Label: The Brymers
 |
On a hot California day in 1963 three teens by the name of Dick Lee, Ken Valentine, and Mike Wagner formed a garage band in Lemoore, California. They named the group “The Challengers”. The boys quickly had to change their name to “The De-Fenders”, when they found out that another group from the area was called “The Challengers.” During the same time period, a local disc jockey by the name of Mel Simas formed a business as a dance promoter. He named his business “Melco Interprises” and asked The De-Fenders if he could become their personal manager. “The De-Fenders” matured and quickly became a recognized act through-out the central California valley area. In 1965, Bill Silva and Al Verissimo of Diplomacy Records approached the group and asked them to sign with the record label. This began a long relation with Diplomacy Records. In late 1965, Diplomacy Records along with Coast Artists Entertainment, re-named the group to “The Brymers.” In an up scale salon in Hollywood, Coast Artists Entertainment and Diplomacy Records arranged to have “The Brymers’ heads shaved in front of cameras, teen magazines, and hundreds of girls. Thus,
“The Brymers” (pronounced Brimmers) were officially born. The group transitioned from a surf band of the early 1960’s to a well seasoned professional rock-n-roll act that featured multi-level harmonies, blues harmonica, fuzz guitar, and the wild Hammond B3 playing of Kenny Sinner. The Brymers blended various sounds until they developed one unique sound reminiscent of “The Byrds,” “The Kinks,” and “The Yardbirds.” In 1966, the group recorded their classic garage hits of “Sacrifice” and “I Want To Tell You.” The group toured extensively and played many venues in San Francisco during the infamous “Summer of Love” (1967). In June, 2007 60sgaragebands.com label released a CD of all the group’s 1960’s recorded output.

JENNY BOHMAN "Coming home" | Ankom: 20091020 Label: rootsy.nu
 |
Little Jenny and the Bluebeans.

NISSE HELLBERG "Alltid hem, hem, hem" | Ankom: 20090930 Label: Metronome

ROY BUCHANAN "Deluxe Edition" | Ankom: 20090912 Label: Alligator Records
digi |
Roy Buchanan was one of America's true geniuses of the electric guitar. Even posthumously, he commands the ardent respect of his fellow guitarists and a devoted army of fans. The Buchanan sound is unique: heartbreaking, searing solos, trademark shimmering tone, gorgeous melodies and a mixture of lightning quickness and technical creativity that mark him as a wizard of the instrument. He was a pioneer in the use of controlled harmonics, and although this technique has been used by the likes of Jeff Beck, Robbie Robertson and ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, all acknowledge Buchanan as the master.
Raised in the small town of Pixley, California, Roy's musical fire was sparked at an early age. His father was a sharecropper and Pentecostal preacher and Roy's first musical memories were of the racially-mixed revival meetings his family would attend. Surrounded by gospel, R&B and country influences, it wasn't long before Roy expressed interest in playing an instrument. His parents sent him to the local lap steel guitar teacher, Mrs. Pressure, who had Roy picking out the Hit Parade favorites by the time he was seven years old. Six years later, Roy moved on to a Fender Telecaster. "I liked the tone," he said, "it sounded a lot like steel guitar." Soon thereafter, drawn to the blossoming R&B scene in Los Angeles, Roy ran away from home and headed for the big city. At only 15 years of age, he was taken under the wing of famed bandleader/producer/writer/arranger/impresario Johnny Otis. The young Roy studied the blues mastery of guitarists such as Jimmy Nolen (later with James Brown), Pete Lewis and Johnny 'Guitar' Watson.
The late fifties and early sixties found Roy playing for and cutting a number of sessions with musicians as diverse as pop idol Freddie Cannon, rockabilly legend Dale Hawkins, and even Ronnie Hawkins (whose band, the Hawks, would later gain fame as the Band). During his stint with Ronnie Hawkins, Roy played guitar mentor to the group's then bass player, Robbie Robertson. Then, in 1962, Roy's trademark harmonics were introduced on “Potato Peeler,” his groundbreaking single with drummer Bobby Gregg. In the mid-sixties, exhausted by life on the road, Roy settled down in the Washington, D.C. area, started his own group, The Snakestretchers, and began a residency at the Crossroads Club in Blades Burg, Maryland.
In 1971, already riding on word-of-mouth reputation that included accolades from Eric Clapton, Merle Haggard, the Rolling Stones and John Lennon (who made a personal pilgrimage to see Roy at the Crossroads Club), Roy "broke" nationally as the result of an hour-long National Public Television documentary. Entitled The Best Unknown Guitarist In The World, the show won Roy a contract with Polydor and began a decade of national and international touring. He cut five albums for Polydor (one went gold) and three for Atlantic (one gold), while playing virtually every major rock concert hall and festival. The major labels gave him fame and fortune, but no artistic freedom. Finally, disgusted with the over-production forced on his music, Roy quit recording in 1981, vowing never to enter a studio again unless he could record his own music his way.
Four years later, Roy was coaxed back into the studio by Alligator Records. His first album for Alligator, When A Guitar Plays The Blues, was released in the spring of 1985. It was the first time he was given total artistic freedom in the studio; it was also his first true blues album. Fans quickly responded, and the album entered Billboard's pop charts with a bullet and remained on the charts for 13 weeks. Music critics, as well as fans applauded Roy's efforts with accolades and plenty of four-star reviews. His second Alligator LP, Dancing On The Edge, was released in the fall of 1986. The album won the College Media Journal (CMJ) Award for Best Blues Album of 1986.
One year later, Buchanan released Hot Wires, his third Alligator LP and the twelfth of his career. It was hailed by the Chicago Tribune as "his best album ever." By this time, Roy's illustrious career had taken him from underground club gigs in the sixties, to international recognition and gold record sales in the seventies and worldwide tours in the eighties with the likes of the Allman Brothers. He even performed to a sold-out Carnegie Hall with label-mates Albert Collins and Lonnie Mack. Roy was thoroughly enjoying the creative freedom he received from Alligator. "Since coming to Alligator," Roy once commented, "I'm finally making the records that I've always wanted to make."
Buchanan's skill, soul and technical innovations were nothing less than marvels to his contemporaries and admirers. Without his inventiveness, the landscape of modern guitar playing would be completely different. Buchanan died in Virginia in 1988. He was 48 years old.

BRIAN SETZER "Songs from Lonely Avenue" | Ankom: 20090910 Label: Surfdog
 |
Brian Setzer has made a career of bucking trends, going against the grain, ignoring popular culture, and blowing people away with his innovative work. As a teenager, Setzer drew inspiration from 50’s rockabilly, fused it with new wave punk, and created a worldwide phenomenon with his band Stray Cats. Always pushing the boundaries, he then created the 18-piece Brian Setzer Orchestra, sold millions of albums, won three Grammys, redefined Christmas music, and toured the planet many times over. He is one of the world’s most dynamic and respected guitarists and has a best-selling, extensive line of elite Gretsch signature model guitars bearing his name to prove it.
Setzer just completed his new record entitled Songs From Lonely Avenue. The album features 13 new original songs all written by Setzer. Nine of the tracks feature orchestrations by the legendary Frank Comstock (Doris Day, Sonny Dunham, Benny Carter, Judy Garland, not to mention the Rocky & Bullwinkle theme!). Inspired by the attitude and tension of the film noir soundtracks from the ‘40's and ‘50's, Setzer set out to create songs that carry a classic cinematic mood that's missing from today's musical landscape. With a propulsive rhythm, an ominous minor key, wicked good instrumental solos and the familiar character of the Devil up to his old tricks, the opening track “Trouble Train” sets the mood for the whole album. Throughout the rest of the album, thugs prowl the street, young couples dance the night away in New York, hearts are broken, and lives are taken, all over pitch-perfect melodies and arrangements. Sit back, close your eyes, and allow yourself to be taken on a journey of crime, passion, heartbreak, and torment on the seedier side of town.
"Songs From Lonely Avenue" will be released on October 14th.

EVA EASTWOOD "Well well well" | Ankom: 20080917 Label: Bonnier
 |

En legendarisk röst genom sin inspelning "Out Of Time".
OBS! Denna platta finns även i en vinyl-utgåva - precis som på den gamla go´a tiden…

EASY ACTION "We go rocking" | Ankom: 20080627 Label: Diesel & Glory
 |

EVA EASTWOOD "My my my" | Ankom: 20080524 Label: Bonnier Amigo Music Group
 |
Mycket mera. Mer än så säger vi inte nu…

KINGEN "Ride with me" | Ankom: 20080514 Label: Black Cat
 |
Hands down.
Alex Green, radioprofil och chefredaktör på publikationen "Caught in the carousel" i Californien recenserar Kingens nya album;
"I took a master class in misery and heartache/I got an A-plus studying bitterness and greed," sings Sweden's Kingen on his new album Ride With Me. Doleful admission aside, Ride With Me is anything but downcast; on the contrary, it's an invigorating blast of rock and roll that is as pure as any album you'll hear all year"

2011-12-17 17:46:44)
